About the Deanery

The South West Peninsula Deanery was established on 1 April 2005 and is responsible for the commissioning and quality assurance of postgraduate medical and dental education and training across Devon and Cornwall. It provides support for GP Training, Foundation Training, Core Training and Specialty Training for all trainees within the Peninsula.

The Deanery is part of the Local Education Training Board  (Health Education South West) and is under the direction of the Postgraduate Dean, Professor Martin Beaman.

The vision of the Deanery is to promote the delivery of high quality patient care through the provision of a highly skilled medical workforce.

The aim is for this workforce to be skilled in all aspects of patient care and be equipped to develop and modify their knowledge and skills in line with the changing needs of the service in the future. This means that all doctors completing training in the South West Peninsula should be fit to practise, fit for purpose and able to adapt.

Some of the documentation is still being developed and validated, please bear with us while this work continues. Please check each section for the available information.
